Braces Myth-Busting

What comes to your mind when you hear the word ‘braces’? Pretty much a plethora of ‘supposed’ facts and images pertaining to braces which you must be picked up here and there. But let us tell you that, most of things that you know or have heard, or have seen on the TV, pertaining to braces, are only myths. Here, we are dedicated to undo some of these myths in the article. If you are looking for orthodontics in Orleans, consider By Town Ortho.

Myth: ‘Braces are problematic when you play sports and hence you cannot engage in sports activities:

Fact: There is in no way that braces can hamper your physical or sports activity (unless you take a direct hit on your mouth, which happens only in contact sports such as combat sports). When you engage in combat sports, make sure you always put on your mouth guard even if it is only sparring session or practise session.

Myth: ‘Braces will set off metal detectors at airports.’

Fact: Metal detectors are devised to detect considerably medium weight or heavy weight metals. Although braces are metals, they are extremely light metals, so they will not se off the alarm in the metal detectors at the airport.

Myth: ‘braces can impede your singing’

Fact: This is again an extremely preposterous myth. After the adjustment period you will not even remover if you have braces. You will not even feel the presence of an alien object inside your mouth. So quite clearly, you can sing even if you have braces on.
